75+ pro athletes heading to Athletic Brewing IRONMAN Lake Placid

The Experience Oman IRONMAN Pro Series returns to the New York State’s Adirondack Mountains on July 19, 2026, for the 27th edition of the Athletic Brewing IRONMAN Lake Placid triathlon.

The event has attracted a professional field of over 75 of the world’s top athletes, who will compete for a maximum of 5,000 points toward the series standings, a US$125,000 prize purse, and four qualifying slots per gender for the 2026 IRONMAN World Championship in Kona, Hawai`i.

The Athletic Brewing IRONMAN Lake Placid triathlon course begins with a 2.4-mile swim in Mirror Lake before athletes tackle a two-loop, 112-mile bike course through New York’s Adirondack Mountains. The race culminates with a challenging two-loop marathon that finishes on the Olympic Oval, site of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympic Games.

In addition to the professional field, more than 2,600 registered participants are expected to compete at IRONMAN Lake Placid, which IRONMAN notes is… ‘one of the most storied events in the sport and a cornerstone of the North American racing calendar.’

In the women’s professional field, Austria’s Lisa Perterer wears the number one bib after finishing as runner-up in Lake Placid last year. She is joined by Spain’s Marta Sanchez, who finished third in the 2025 event and currently sits ninth in the IRONMAN Pro Series standings.

American Chelsea Sodaro, the 2022 IRONMAN World Champion, will make her debut at the venue. Other contenders include Australia’s Grace Thek, currently sixth in the standings, and Canadian Tamara Jewett, who is eighth.

Canadian Paula Findlay, a three-time reigning IRONMAN 70.3 North American Champion, will make her full-distance IRONMAN debut in Lake Placid. Her career includes multiple victories across the middle-distance circuit, and her performance over the 140.6-mile distance is highly anticipated.

The men’s professional field features defending champion Matthew Marquardt, who also won the 2026 ISUZU IRONMAN South Africa African Championship. He faces competition from 2024 Lake Placid champion Trevor Foley, who is undefeated in the Pro Series this year after wins at the Happy Valley and New Zealand events.

Belgium’s Marten Van Riel enters the race following a victory at IRONMAN 70.3 Elsinore. Last year’s runner-up, Denmark’s Kristian Høgenhaug, also returns, alongside American Rudy Von Berg, who is ranked in the top 15 of the series standings.

The event will be broadcast live for international audiences on the brand’s YouTube channel and dedicated pro series website.
