The IRONMAN Group has announced the addition of the IRONMAN 70.3 Ha Long Bay triathlon to its international race calendar, introducing a new event on Vietnam’s northern coast set against a UNESCO World Heritage landscape.
Scheduled for Sunday, March 21, 2027, the inaugural middle-distance race will be preceded by a multi-sport festival on Saturday, March 20, 2027, featuring a 5150 triathlon, a Sprint distance triathlon, and IRONKIDS events. The weekend is delivered in partnership with Sunrise Events Vietnam.
The course features a 1.9km swim starting from Hòn Gai Beach, followed by a 90km bike leg along the coastal road of Trần Quốc Nghiễn overlooking the bay’s limestone karsts, and a 21.1km run tracking the waterfront past the Quảng Ninh Museum and Library complex.
Accessibility to the region is supported by international and domestic gateways including Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport, Van Don International Airport, and Cat Bi International Airport.
Michelle Pepper, Managing Director for Asia-Pacific at The IRONMAN Group, said “We are incredibly excited to launch the IRONMAN 70.3 Ha Long Bay triathlon and welcome our global community to this extraordinary destination. Ha Long Bay is an extraordinary destination, with its iconic limestone landscape, rich culture and warm hospitality creating a truly memorable setting for athletes, their families and supporters.
“We look forward to working with Sunrise Events Vietnam and our destination partners to deliver a world-class event that showcases the very best of the region to the global IRONMAN community.”
Bang Trinh, Co-Founder and Chairman of Sunrise Events Vietnam, added “Bringing IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon to Ha Long Bay represents another important step in the development of endurance sports in Vietnam. What began with our first event in Da Nang in 2015 has grown into a vibrant community of athletes, partners and supporters across the country.
“Expanding into northern Vietnam gives us another opportunity to connect communities through sport while showcasing the region to the world.”
General registration for the inaugural event opens on November 4, 2026.
