Triathlon Trust partners with Women in Tri UK

The Triathlon Trust has partnered with non-profit organisation Women in Tri UK to expand swimming, cycling and running programmes for women in Bristol and York.

The collaboration aims to address barriers to sports participation by creating supportive, community-focused environments for women looking to build confidence and develop physical skills.

Rather than launching a standalone initiative, the partnership builds on Women in Tri UK’s existing model. Having previously established active communities in London alongside delivering sessions from Scotland to Southend, the organisation identified strong regional demand in both Bristol and York.

Through funding and strategic backing from the Triathlon Trust, the initiative will deliver accessible, women-only Swim, Bike, Run sessions combining public spaces with local sporting facilities.

The effectiveness of the programmes will be evaluated through long-term social impact metrics, including participant confidence, mental wellbeing, community integration, and sustained physical activity.

Steve Rice, Interim Chair of the Triathlon Trust said “This partnership perfectly reflects what the Triathlon Trust is here to do. We don’t just fund projects. We build partnerships that remove barriers, create opportunities and transform lives through swim, bike and run.

“Women in Tri UK has created something really special. By building supportive communities where women feel welcome, encouraged and inspired to take that first step, they’re showing that our sport can be accessible to everyone. We’re delighted to be working alongside them to help that impact grow in Bristol and York and create opportunities that we hope will make a lasting difference.”

Bianca Fernandez-Clark, Chair & CEO of Women in Tri UK said “This partnership means a great deal to us. Bristol and York already have strong, engaged communities of women who have been asking for exactly this kind of support, and working with the Triathlon Trust means we can give them the swim, bike and run sessions they deserve, delivered by coaches who understand what it takes to help a woman feel welcome and confident from her very first session.

“We know that for many women, the biggest barrier isn’t fitness, it’s belief that this space is for them. Every session we run is designed to change that. We’re so grateful to the Triathlon Trust for recognising the value of this work and for helping us bring it to more women, in more places, across the country.”

Over the coming months, both organisations will share participant stories and updates on progress across both regions.
