Updated Canyon Aeroad CFR records wind tunnel result with new race cockpit

Canyon has announced an upgrade to its Aeroad CFR frame and specifications, with the updated frame and cockpit recording a 198-watt drag result under independent wind tunnel testing conditions.

The product update by the German bicycle manufacturer comes ahead of the 2026 Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes. The Aeroad platform is used in the professional peloton by teams such as Alpecin–Premier Tech, CANYON//SRAM and Movistar. The latest specification update also allows amateur riders access to a setup that was previously restricted to professional athletes.

Central to the update is the new CP0053 RACE cockpit. Compared to the existing CP0048 PACE Bar, Canyon notes that the V-shaped one-piece RACE Bar offers greater torsional stiffness for improved power transfer during sprinting, alongside a 120g weight saving to aid climbing and acceleration.

According to the company, the cockpit design delivers a two-watt saving of aerodynamic drag in the wind tunnel, or up to 25 watts in real-world riding conditions by minimising the frontal surface area of the rider.

The 198-watt drag result was recorded during independent wind tunnel testing conducted by TOUR Magazine at the GST wind tunnel in Immenstaad, Germany. The benchmark test measures aerodynamic efficiency at a steady 45km/h airflow across a yaw range of –20° to +20° to simulate crosswinds, utilizing a dummy with moving legs.

The specific bike setup for the sub-200 watt test included a SRAM Red AXS 1×13-speed drivetrain, AXS E1 hydraulic brakes, a 10–46T cassette, DT Swiss ARC 1100 Dicut db 65mm rims, Continental Aero 111 26mm and GP 5000 28mm tyres, a Canyon SP0105 seatpost, and a Selle Italia SLR Boost 3D carbonio 130mm saddle.

The new RACE Bar features 14° of flare in the drops, 10mm more effective reach, and a 20mm lower effective stack height to allow riders to achieve a more aerodynamic position. It is available through the MyCanyon customisation programme in two widths (350mm and 375mm) and seven lengths, with two carbon computer mounts included as standard. It is also backward compatible as an aftermarket option for bikes equipped with the CP0048 PACE Bar, including recent generations of the Aeroad CFR, Aeroad CF SLX, Endurace CFR, Endurace CF SLX, Ultimate CFR and Ultimate CF SLX.

Beyond the cockpit, the updated Aeroad CFR frame incorporates a standardised Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH) interface at the rear drive-side dropout. This updates the frame to be compatible with modern drivetrain standards and simplifies the process of sourcing replacement hangers.

The MyCanyon customisation program has also been expanded to allow further configuration options for the Aeroad CFR and CF SLX. Customers can choose from three seatpost options: the default SP105 Aero Seatpost with 10mm setback (146g), the SP106 Aero Zero Setback Seatpost (137g), or the SP0093 VCLS Aero Comfort Seatpost featuring a cut-out design and 10mm setback (160g).

New wheelset and tyre configurations are available via a partnership with Dutch carbon wheel brand Scope. Options include the Scope Artech 6 aero wheelset (1,244g) featuring a 65mm rim height and scaly surface paired with Pirelli P-Zero SLR TLR tyres. Alternatively, the Scope Artech 4 wheelset (1,120g) features a 45mm rim height paired with Continental GP5000 TT tyres.

Handlebar drop options can also be adjusted. The default Classic drops can be swapped for Race drops, which feature a reduced flare angle and increased drop for high-speed handling, or Compact drops, which offer a shorter effective reach. For the Aeroad CF SLX model, customers can now also configure crank length, stem length, drop options and cassette options.

The new Aeroad CFR and Aeroad CFR LTD bikes are available directly from the company via its website and mobile application. Five new colourways have been introduced: Prima Nero, Prima Alba, Prima Iride, Fabrio Cosmic Ash, and Mano Orion.
