National governing body British Triathlon has partnered with Kit Revolution to launch KitHub. The new online platform is designed to reduce financial barriers to participation and extend the life cycle of sports kit.
British Triathlon notes that a significant amount of sports kit currently goes unused, with many people lacking a clear way to pass on items that are still in good condition. At the same time, the rising cost of equipment can be a barrier to participation in swim, bike, and run sports.
KitHub gives clubs, members, and participants a way to pass on kit they no longer need. The platform creates a community-led reuse ecosystem where listed items can help people start, continue, or return to multisport activities.
The initiative also aims to deliver environmental benefits, with research showing that keeping clothing in use for just nine additional months can reduce its carbon, water, and waste footprint by up to 30%. Around 50 items were added to the site ahead of launch, including items donated by British Triathlon athletes.
Eve Joseph, Head of Social Impact at British Triathlon, said “The collaboration reflects a shared ambition to extend the life of unused and pre-loved triathlon kit, reduce financial obstacles for participants, and embed circular economy principles in the sport. By enabling kit reuse at scale, we’re taking a positive step towards reducing unnecessary waste and making better use of the resources already within our community. The partnership will help ensure that more people, who want to try triathlon have access to the equipment they need.”
The platform will also generate funding for the Triathlon Trust to assist individuals and communities facing barriers to accessing sport. KitHub users can buy, sell, swap, and donate pre-loved kit, with the option to donate sales proceeds directly to the charity.
Steve Rice, Chair at the Triathlon Trust, said “We are delighted British Triathlon is supporting the Triathlon Trust through this initiative. The funds raised will help us continue our work to change lives through swim, bike and run; supporting communities, opening up opportunities for those who face the greatest barriers to being active and helping athletes realise their potential.
“It is a strong example of how the triathlon community can come together in a practical and purposeful way, turning unused and pre-loved kit into practical benefits that will help the Trust deliver real impact where it is needed most.”
Claire Moffat, Founder at Kit Revolution, said “Through this partnership, we’re making it easier for people to access triathlon by unlocking the value of existing kit and redistributing it where it’s needed most. It’s about turning unused kit into real opportunities for individuals and communities to get involved in the sport.
“It also shows how the triathlon community can come together in a practical and purposeful way, turning unused and pre-loved kit into meaningful support that delivers real impact.”
British Triathlon will also use its dedicated KitHub space to redistribute official kit from athletes, events, volunteering, training programmes, and previous seasons.
