Updated elite vetting process for 2027 Life Time Grand Prix events

Off-road race owner and producer Life Time has unveiled an updated qualification and vetting framework for elite competitors across its 2027 event series, introducing standardised entry criteria for athletes seeking pro corral access and spots in the Life Time Grand Prix.

The updated system requires all elite competitors to secure an official ‘LT Pro Number’ prior to registering for the Pro category at individual events – including UNBOUND Gravel and the Leadville Trail 100 MTB – or entering the Sea Otter Qualifier for the 2027 Life Time Grand Prix roster.

Automatic qualification will be granted to returning pro athletes meeting pre-defined benchmarks, while new applicants will be evaluated against published performance thresholds within a seven-day review window.

To maintain entry pathways for emerging competitors, Life Time has designated seven open-entry qualifier races within its portfolio where athletes can earn Pro status on-course without prior holding of an LT Pro Number. Results from a select list of non-Life Time events will also be considered during the review process. Beyond performance transparency, the organisation highlighted course safety in high-density start corrals as a key driver for the stricter vetting protocols.

Michelle Duffy, Director of the Life Time Grand Prix, said “We love that our events bring together athletes of all ages and abilities, and create opportunities for people to challenge themselves. At the same time, mass participant events like UNBOUND and Leadville are fast and can be tightly packed, particularly at the front of the field.

“Establishing clear, performance-based criteria for the Pro start helps ensure riders competing at the front have demonstrated the experience and ability to race safely at that level, while providing a transparent pathway for athletes to earn their place.”

Life Time operates over 195 athletic country clubs across North America alongside a portfolio of more than 30 endurance events, including the Chicago Half Marathon, UNBOUND Gravel, and the Leadville Race Series. The 2027 season marks the sixth edition of the Life Time Grand Prix series.
